PRESS : MA-CRY OF SILENCE

On October 4 and 5, Burmese director The Maw Naing presented his last feature film MA-Cry of silence, written by Oh YoungJeong and co-produced by Massala with One Point Zero (Myanmar), Plus Point One (South Korea), Potocol (Singapore) DuoFilms (Norway) and Alpha Violet Production (France). The world premiere was held at the Busan International Film Festival in the “New Currents” section.

“The political grows increasingly personal in MA – Cry Of Silence, The Maw Naing’s punchy, heartfelt drama which reflects the daily reality of life in Myanmar through the ruthless exploitation of a young textile worker. Her decision to fight back lies at the heart of an eye-opening work that should find a particular welcome at festivals with a strong human rights focus following its Busan New Currents premiere.”

Allan HUNTER, Screen Daily

Several articles were published following the first screenings :

Screen Daily (EN) // The Film Verdict (EN) // Le Polyester (FR)

“A stirring call to arms for the people of Myanmar”

Screen Daily

“Vital in its depiction of the possibilities and perils of standing up against tyranny in the here and now”

The Film Verdict

“The shooting itself proved dangerous, and Ma – Cry of Silence’s courageous approach is to be commended.”
